Monday Motivation October 29, 2018 Do You Make Decisions or Commitments?

Do you make decisions or commitments

Why Are Some People More Successful Than Others With Seemingly The Same Opportunities?

Because they make Commitments, not just Decisions.

How many decisions have you made this year and not followed through with them?

We’ve all done it.

  • I am going to lose weight.
  • I am going to only check my emails at specific times during the day.
  • I am going to complete that report today.
  • I am going to phone that difficult client today.
  • I am going to have that difficult conversation with my team member about his attitude.
  • I am going to stop smoking.
  • I am going to exercise every morning before work.

We make a start, but we don’t carry through past a few weeks with the exercise, or losing weight or stopping smoking.

We start the report but after the first distraction we don’t return to it.

We have a raft of reasons why we can’t do all the other things we decided we were going to do.

Decisions are nothing more than ideas in our heads unless we take action on them. Commitment is the Energy  that fuels our action.

So What Does Commitment mean?

  • I am going to do everything I possibly can to achieve that goal, to make it happen.
  • I am going to jump every obstacle that is put in my way.
  • I am going to manage every part of my personality that gets in the way.
  • I am going to put in place every possible support that will help me remain committed to this goal.
  • I am going to stick with this to the end.
  • I am going to be successful.

Committed people are self-disciplined people. They do what they should do, when they should do it, whether they feel like it or not. That’s why they are successful. That is the difference maker.

Kop Kopmeyer who has written about success for more than 50 years says there are 999 other success principles but that without self-discipline none of them work.

My Motivational Challenge for This Week.

This week write down all those decisions you made at the beginning of this year that you haven’t followed through on.

Prioritise them in terms of the most important, that is, the ones that would make the biggest difference to your work and your life.

Take the first decision and change it into a commitment, using the focus above. Stay with it until you have achieved it.

Start Today!
