Empowering You For Leadership No. 1.

Leadership Readings No. 1

Every leader needs to read and stay up to date on what is current and in touch with the Thought Leaders of the moment on leadership. Every week I read a lot of articles, blog posts, reports and books on leadership and I keep most of them to myself. From now on I’m going to share with you some of what I read each week that I believe will inform, educate and enhance your leadership.

This first week, I’ve chosen two – one for you to improve your leadership and management performance, the other for improving the performance of your employees.

6 Leadership Weaknesses and How To Fix Them.

You know the adage that people join organisations and leave managers, and they do so because their leader/manager has not performed well in these 6 areas. They can all be fixed however. Why I’ve chosen this article is that it highlights some issues that are not generally highlighted in articles about failed leadership.

  1. Lack of trust in employees.
  2. Excessive connectivity.
  3. Stagnancy.
  4. Needing to be liked.
  5. Hypocrisy.
  6. Failing to set clear expectations.

Self-Assessment – 5 Tips for Writing Your Performance Evaluation.

I present a masterclass on Rethinking Performance Appraisals and part of the rethink is getting organisations to come up with different and more effective ways of helping employees improve their performance. What I like about this article is that it actually gives employees a sample of how to write their own self-assessment. This is certainly an idea many of you may find worth trying.
